I use my Qtek 9000 mostly as a laptop, I don't use it as a phone. As a phone I use the HTC S730, which supports UMTS and the quicker HSDPA. Now I want to access the Internet from my Qtek 9000 through the HTC S730, via Bluetooth.

The problem

On XDA-developers I posted this question.

Quote: Hi there,

I want to use my HTC S730 as PAN access point with my HTC Universal as client. My HTC Universal runs WM6 (Crossbow) but doesn't support PAN client-side.

The PAN bluetooth service just doesn't appear. I also tried the 7.5 MB broadcomm bluetooth stack (UNIBT.CAB). When using the PAN wizard it doesn't find a bluetooth service. When adding it manually, it just doesn't do anything when connecting.

Does anyone has a solution for enabling clientside PAN on the Universal? Thanks!

But I found the answer myself, of course with the use of the forums on XDA-developers.

What is PAN and where is DUN?

PAN stands for Personal Area Network and is a way to access a network (eg. the Internet) via Bluetooth through a cellphone. Before PAN, there was DUN, or Dial-up Networking. This worked for analog lines, digital lines (ISDN) and also for GPRS and faster networks by suppling dial strings like *99#.
DUN has been disabled on Windows smartphones WM5 AKU 3 and WM6 phones (it can be enabled using the WM6_BT_DUN.cab hack. On the HTC S730 however it seems to be removed completed.

Some interesting readings:
Why did we remove Bluetooth DUN?
Dial-up Networking Via Bluetooth Under WM5 AKU3 / WM6: WORKING at last!! A MUST!!!
Another GREAT breakthrough in Windows Mobile networking: BT PAN server w/ MS BT stack.

In this last posting I actually found the solution:
Quote: it can only be run on PPC PE and Smartphone devices – no phoneless but MS BT stack-based models like the Dell Axim x51v (or the x50v with the WM5 upgrade) are supported. (Time to install the Widcomm BT stack hack if you haven’t already done so.)
However, instead of the BT stack provided in that posting, another one is needed voor de HTC Universal.

Pre-requisites

A HTC Universal (eg. Qtek 9000, I-Mate Jasjar, T-Mobile MDA Pro) with Windows Mobile 6 (WM6), I use Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM Update 2.12.08 WWE.
A (HTC) Windows Mobile smartphone that supports PAN networking (WM5 AKU3 or WM6), I have a HTC S730

The steps

Important: on the phone uninstall any DUN hack (eg. WM6_BT_DUN.cab)
On the Universal, install the Bluetooth Broadcom Stack (UNIBT.CAB) (in the device's memory, not on the storage card)
Disable Bluetooth from the connectionmanager (this is the old stack)
Enable bluetooth from Settings - Connections - Bluetooth (this is the new stack, this doesn't work from the connection manager anymore)
Disable all other connections (WiFi, phone)
Start Programs - Bluetooth Manager
On the phone, start Internet sharing (make sure the phone is discoverable)
On the Universal, in the Bluetooth Manager, create a new shortcut
Choose Explore a Bluetooth Device
Select the phone and choose Network Access Point
Now tap and hold the newly created icon and select Connect
Enter a passkey on both the Universal and the phone
On the phone I selected serial port as service but I don't think it is really necessary
Important: on the Universal tap and hold the antenna icon and. In the balloon that appears, select The Internet and choose Connect

That's it. See the screenshots below. Please note that in the screenshots the language on the S730 is Dutch.

If you have problems connecting, please be sure you disable the old bluetooth stack by disabling bluetooth in the connection manager and then enable the new bluetooth stack from the Programs menu or today screen.
